Cultural Relations between Switzerland and South Africa. 1948-1994

This PhD thesis is being conducted in the framework of the SNSF supported research project 182311 with the same title, managed at the Institut Interpretation of the HKB / University of the Arts in Bern.

Four smaller research projects look at specific topics (related to Jazz, to classical music exchanges, to translation and presentation of Swiss theatre texts in Afrikaans, in South Africa, and to the presentation of South African theatre in Switzerland before 1990).

This dissertation will give an overarching view on theses exchanges, looking at policy and cultural diplomacy, at all art forms and embedding findings in cultural dynamics in a larger sense.
